Hostile Faction Team Europe have taken 5th-8th place at the Crossfire Intel Challenge 7, surprising a whole field of top class competitors and making a real name for themselves. The team, consisting of Aagaard, PatR, k1lmo, Profft and Gevers, caused some huge upsets, and turned heads all over the European Call of Duty 4 scene with a great performance.
Group Play
They were placed in one of the seemingly tougher groups, along with top names H2k Gaming, and mTw.MF. Making up their group were DOK gaming and NCC. No one really gave them a chance, with H2k and mTw the big favourites to go through in everyone’s books. However the team was quietly confident of their chances against both teams, and it really showed in their results. The first match saw them take a vital win against NCC, who had recently made some strong line-up additions just before the tournament. The match ended 13-10 on mp_backlot, which gave the team the confidence they were going to need going into the massive match with mTw, who had just demolished DOK Gaming 13-5 on mp_crash. The match was played on mp_crash also, and mTw would have been hugely confident. Hostile Faction remained composed and pulled off an impressive 13-5 win, to the astonishment of much of the Call of Duty community. This left them with a great chance of qualifying, and no pressure going into their matchup with top seeds H2k, one of the favourites for the tournament after their success online. Despite being up 9-3, Hostile Faction couldn’t hold on to their lead against a very experienced side and fell to a respectable 13-10 defeat. After then comfortably defeating DOK Gaming on one of their better maps, mp_strike, it left them in a dominating position in the group. They eventually came 2nd, qualifying behind H2k after the the Swedish giants took an easy win over mTw on mp_crossfire.
Playoffs
After their qualification to the playoffs, they would meet Czech side eSuba, after they impressively topped their group over TLR. There was no pressure on Hostile Faction, as every prediction was going against them, but they were determined to pull off the win. The first map was to be mp_crash, and after slumping to a 4-0 round deficit at the start, the team stepped it up and found their voice to level it at 6-6 for the half. Their superior defensive work then led them to take the first map 13-10, and give them the advantage going into mp_strike. After going round for round the whole way, it inevitably went into overtime, where Hostile Faction saw their chance to take the game and move through to the quarter finals. They took the first 4 rounds of overtime to advance through to play tournament favourites Fnatic. The first map was mp_strike, a map Fnatic very rarely lose on, so it was a credit to the team to only marginally lose 13-10 after a valiant effort. They felt their chance would come on mp_crossfire, and sure enough it did, and they stormed into a first half 8-4 lead. On the defensive side they were then ahead by 11 rounds to 7, before some great teamwork from the favourites brought it back to 11-9, before an incredible 1v4 clutch from player of the tournament Odyx gave them the momentum to push through for a 13-11 win. Fnatic went onto win the tournament with a 3 map win over Reason Gaming, showing accomplishment of the team to run them so close.
After their massive success in the tournament, they will take their momentum into the Danish LAN, TDL, where we wish them all the best.
